The role of the Austrian Association of Municipalities and the Austrian Association of Cities and Towns :
The representative Associations kept track of the financial situation of local governments from the beginning of the crisis and were soon asking for financial aid to ensure solvency and investments on the one hand and compensation of loss of (tax) revenue on the other. As the situation evolved, lobbying efforts intensified and cumulated in high ranking meetings between representatives of both Associations and the Federal Government. Compared to a similar package after the financial crisis the share of the federal grant doubled to 50%, the access of ongoing projects and maintenance of existing infrastructure helps financially weak municipalities.
